Thermo-optical carbon OC/EC analyser with multiple wavelengths.

The ‘DRI 2015 Series 2’ thermo-optical carbon analyser from Aerosol Magee Scientific is a precise laboratory instrument for quantifying the proportion of organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) in aerosol samples collected on filters. The associated software supports the most commonly used temperature protocols IMPROVE_A, EUSAAR_2 or NIOSH, but can also be adapted to any other protocol. The optical measurement is carried out at 7 wavelengths, whereby both the optical transmission and the reflection are determined. The additional optical information from several wavelengths enables extended statements to be made, e.g. about the concentration of brown carbon (BrC) or with regard to source allocation. An optionally available autoloader for 50 filter samples enables the device to be operated independently for more than 24 hours.
